Cookie Policy
Last updated: July 2, 2026. How we use cookies to keep the routing wheels spinning.
What are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your web browser. They help us remember your map preferences (like dark mode styling, unit measurements in miles vs kilometers, and selected starting points) so you don't have to re-enter them every time.
How We Use Cookies
We use cookies and local browser storage (LocalStorage) for essential site features, performance metrics, and personalization. We do not use third-party cookies that follow your browsing across other unrelated websites.
Types of Cookies Used
We separate our browser cookies/storage into three categories:
- Essential: Required to keep you signed in, persist your ongoing route settings, and remember theme selections (light/dark mode).
- Performance/Analytics: Help us measure route-generation speeds and identify bug clusters anonymously.
- Map Rendering: Persisted key tokens required to load maps dynamically from our mapping partners (e.g. Mapbox).
Cookies Table List
Here is an active list of the cookies and local storage tokens we use on our platform:
| Cookie / Storage Name | Category | Source | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
theme | Essential | First-Party | Persists user's light/dark theme preference | Persistent |
route_presets | Essential | First-Party | Stores last selected distance and vehicle filters | Persistent |
mapbox.eventData | Map rendering | Mapbox | Anonymous statistics on map loading metrics | Session |
_ga | Analytics | Google Analytics | Anonymized general visitor count tracking | 2 Years |
Managing Choices
Most web browsers allow you to block cookies entirely or clear them upon closing your tab. Check your browser's Help menu for exact steps.
Please note: if you disable essential cookies and local storage tokens, Ride Somewhere will not be able to store your route history, remember your distance units (km vs miles), or maintain your custom preferences.
