Support & FAQ

Frequently Asked
Questions.

Everything you need to know about our surprise route engine, distance calculations, GPX exports, offline navigation, and rider safety.

Getting Started

Core concepts, spontaneous routing philosophy, and basic setup.

How does the surprise routing concept work?

Instead of spending hours researching routes or following someone else's predetermined GPX track, you simply choose your starting location, pick a distance (e.g. 25km, 50km, 100km), and select your desired vibe (scenic twists, mountain viewpoints, coastal cafés). Our proprietary routing algorithm generates a custom, loop-optimized adventure instantly so you can just gear up and ride.

Do I need an account to plan a ride?

No! You can generate routes and preview turn-by-turn instructions immediately without creating an account. Signing up for a free account allows you to save favorite routes, track your ride history, sync across devices, and contribute points of interest to the community.

Can I choose a specific starting point other than my current location?

Yes. While Ride Somewhere is optimized for instant one-tap rides from your current GPS position, you can easily drag the pin, enter an address, or search for any location (home, hotel, campground, trailhead) to plan ahead.

Is Ride Somewhere free to use?

Yes! Core loop generation, turn-by-turn route preview, and standard points of interest are 100% free. We also offer an optional Pro upgrade that includes offline map downloads, direct GPX/TCX device exports, and turn-by-turn voice navigation.

Routing & Navigation

Distance accuracy, road selection algorithms, loops, and GPS exports.

How accurate is the distance estimation?

We guarantee that generated routes will be within ±2km of your requested target distance. In real-world testing over thousands of routes, more than 95% of generated loops finish within ±0.8km of your requested goal.

Can I choose between a loop route and a one-way destination?

Yes. By default, Ride Somewhere generates scenic circular loops that start and finish at the exact same location without repeating roads. You can toggle to 'Point-to-Point' mode whenever you want a direct scenic route to a specific destination or city.

What kind of roads does the routing engine pick?

Our algorithm prioritizes winding backroads, scenic ridge-lines, tree-lined country lanes, and coastal passages. It intentionally avoids congested multi-lane freeways, mundane industrial corridors, and heavy stop-and-go urban traffic whenever alternative paved routes are available.

Can I avoid highways, toll roads, and unpaved gravel?

Yes! The routing filter allows you to customize your preferences: avoid highways, bypass toll roads, skip ferries, or toggle unpaved/gravel surfaces on or off based on what your vehicle can handle.

Can I export routes to my Garmin, Wahoo, Beeline, or phone GPS app?

Yes! You can export any generated route as a standard .GPX or .KML file, open it directly in Google Maps or Apple Maps, or sync it with dedicated motorcycle GPS units (Garmin Zumo, Beeline Moto, TomTom Rider) and cycling computers.

Features & Offline Maps

Offline capability, battery performance, POI discovery, and group rides.

Does navigation work offline when there is no cell service?

Yes! With our offline feature, you can download complete vector map regions and pre-cache your entire route. When riding through deep canyons or remote mountain passes with zero cellular signal, your GPS location and turn-by-turn navigation will continue working seamlessly.

How does the Surprise POI (Points of Interest) Engine work?

Our database contains thousands of verified scenic viewpoints, motorcycle-friendly cafés, mountain lookouts, twisty passes, and historic landmarks. When calculating your ride, the engine intelligently picks stops along the route that match your selected vibe and pacing preferences.

How much battery does the app use during a ride?

Ride Somewhere uses lightweight vector mapping and intelligent GPS power management. On average, a 2-hour ride uses only 8–12% battery with the screen on, and less than 4% when using audio-only background guidance.

Can I share a route with my friends or riding group?

Yes! Every generated route features an instant share link and a scannable QR code. Your friends can open the link in any mobile browser or the app to follow the exact same route and waypoints without needing to create an account.

Vehicles & Surface Types

Support for motorcycles, bicycles, e-bikes, ADV dual-sport, and sports cars.

Is Ride Somewhere only for motorcycles?

While Ride Somewhere was created by passionate adventure motorcyclists, we offer dedicated routing modes for road cyclists, gravel riders, e-bikes, and sports car enthusiasts. Each vehicle profile customizes speed calculations, elevation weighting, and road safety filters.

Does it support off-road, ADV, and dual-sport trails?

Yes! By selecting the 'Adventure / Dual-Sport' vibe, the routing engine includes graded gravel backroads, forestry tracks, and scenic unpaved passes suitable for adventure motorcycles and gravel bikes.

Which platforms and browsers are supported?

Ride Somewhere is a modern Progressive Web App (PWA) compatible with all modern mobile browsers (iOS Safari, Android Chrome) and desktop systems (Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox). You can also add it to your home screen for an app-like fullscreen experience.

Safety & Community

Road safety checks, detour recalculation, and community contributions.

How do you ensure surprise routes are safe to ride?

All route segments are continuously scored against safety databases, speed limits, surface quality ratings, and elevation contours. We prioritize roads with good visibility and lower heavy-truck traffic, while steering clear of dangerous unmarked intersections.

Can I submit a secret viewpoint or favorite biker café?

Absolutely! After completing a ride, you can suggest new points of interest, upload photos, or flag road condition updates. Submissions are verified by our moderation team and community algorithm before going live.

What should I do if a road is closed or blocked during my ride?

Simply tap the 'Detour / Recalculate' button on the navigation screen. Ride Somewhere will instantly calculate an alternate scenic bypass around the obstruction while preserving your total loop distance.
